Anyway,

I spent a couple days creating optimal hall presets so that

when I’m in the middle of a mix, many different sized halls are just a click away!

This means I don’t have to stop and tweak parameters.

I can just scroll through many different halls allowing me to keep grooving in my workflow!

But these aren’t just any halls…I did some research into acoustics…

and I found an acoustician’s paper on the subject…

This acoustician created very specific halls, depending on the size of the space.

Small halls, medium halls, big halls, they all need different lengths, heights, and widths!

He proposed that there are certain golden ratios for halls, optimal halls, if you will.

His theory takes into account reverb time and intelligibilty in a real world environment!

His optimal halls are meant for enough reverb in a real space

but also short enough of a reverb so that you can still understand the words in the song!

A few audio examples of a grand piano arpeggio are below…

with different reverb presets from the Optimal Halls Preset Pack!

They are subtle examples, a reverb bus was created, and the piano was sent to the reverb at -12.

An EQ was also placed on the bus before the reverb to remove unnecessary low and high end.
